Breathless
I love it when I am shading and searching for the light in the portrait, half way through the process something beautiful comes out. This time I saw the sad looking eye of my subject, while her mouth was completely covered. It looked disturbing, suffocating and beautiful at the same time. For me it symbolised oppression and the gagging of women who try to fight for their rights in countries where they have none. I made a picture to capture the moment.
Bokart Glass in Zagreb, they were nice enough to print this picture on a piece of glass and make an antique mirror coating on it. Now it has become a beautiful art piece for on your wall.

Ademnood
Ik vind grisaille schaduwen maken altijd heel leuk. Tijdens het zoeken naar het licht in het portret zag ik halverwege het proces iets prachtigs ontstaan. Ik zag het trieste oog van deze vrouw, terwijl haar mond nog steeds bedekt was. Het zag er tegelijk verontrustend, benauwend en mooi uit. Voor mij symboliseerde het beeld de onderdrukking en monddood maken van vrouwen. Zij proberen te vechten voor hun rechten in landen waar zij tweederangs burgers zijn. Ik maakte er een foto van om het moment op te slaan.
Bokart Glass in Zagreb heeft het portret voor mij op glas geprint en er daarna een laag antieke spiegel achter gemaakt. Nu is het een prachtig kunstwerk voor aan de muur.
